Used Snow Plow Trucks For Sale

Snow plow trucks for sale

A snow plow truck is an essential piece of equipment in regions where winter brings heavy snowfall and icy conditions. Built on a truck chassis and fitted with front-mounted plow blades, these machines are designed to clear roads, highways, parking lots, and job sites efficiently. At Ritchie Bros., buyers can explore a wide selection of snow plow trucks for sale, including both new and used snow plow trucks, with flexible purchasing formats to suit different operational needs.

What are snow plow trucks used for?

Snow plow trucks are relied upon by municipalities, contractors, and private operators to keep critical routes accessible during winter storms. These trucks can be used for:

• Road Clearing – Removing snow from highways, city streets, and rural routes to maintain traffic flow.
• Parking Lot & Site Maintenance – Keeping commercial lots, job sites, and industrial yards safe and functional.
• Emergency Access – Ensuring that ambulances, fire trucks, and utility crews can respond during severe weather events.

Features of a snow plow truck

Modern snow plow trucks are designed with both power and adaptability in mind. Common features include:

• Heavy-Duty Plow Blades – Steel or composite blades designed to push large volumes of snow quickly.
• Four-Wheel Drive – Enhances traction and control on icy roads and steep inclines.
• Hydraulic Controls – Allow operators to angle and lift the plow blade for more efficient snow clearing.
• Lighting & Safety Systems – High-visibility lighting, strobes, and reflective gear ensure safety in low-visibility conditions.

Snow plow trucks vs. other winter equipment

Snow plow trucks are often paired with salt or sand spreader systems, enabling operators to plow and treat surfaces in one pass. Compared to loaders with snow pushers or spreader trucks, a plow truck can clear large areas faster and with fewer passes. The ability to add attachments and spreaders makes them versatile tools for winter operations.

Buying new vs. used snow plow trucks

When deciding between new and used snow plow trucks for sale, buyers often weigh cost, availability, and technology. New trucks provide the latest features and longer service life, while used plow trucks offer excellent value and can be quickly deployed into service. Ritchie Bros. regularly features both options, giving buyers the flexibility to select trucks that match their budgets and workloads.

Brands and models

Common makes include International, Mack, Freightliner, and Ford, often equipped with aftermarket plow systems from manufacturers such as Boss, Western, or Fisher. These brands are known for durability, parts availability, and reliable performance in extreme conditions. Whether you’re looking for a light-duty pickup with a plow attachment or a heavy-duty Class 8 truck configured for municipal use, Ritchie Bros. has options to explore.
